Video Player FAQ

At PRW Productions we have tested our video player in most browsers and operating systems but due to the wide spectrum of browsers and operating systems available it could be possible that your particular configuration is not supported. Please read through some of the FAQ below to find out if there is any known or common issues...

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

Even though the video is embedded in the web pages you'll still need a Windows Media Player installed on your PC to view our videos, the good thing is that if you have a windows PC you probably already have it, and if you have a MAC you will need to download it. PRW Productions standardized on the Windows Media Player format because it's very commonly available. Although, with the recent popularity rise of flash we might upgrade our site to flash video in the near future. Windows Media Player is currently at Version 11 (their download logo still says 10), but earlier versions will work fine as well. Download the players by clicking on the icons below...

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER - VIDEO ACCELARATION SETTING

Once you have download the player there is one more setting that has been known to cause problems (particularly in Netscape). If you are experiencing the disappearance of the actual video (or portions of) once you click on any of the controls such as pause or volume you can fix this as follows. Right click on the player and select "Options". In the "Player Options" window under the "performance tab" you should adjust the video acceleration slider from "full" to "half".

POPUP BLOCKERS

The nature of most stand-alone or browser-built-in popup blockers used to be that an un requested automated popup (user did not click on anything) will be blocked. However some popup blockers and browsers now block popup's even if they were initiated by a user clicking a button.

Our web site uses popup's to launch the custom sized video player window depending on the video. If you are experiencing problems launching our video player window either from the redirect page or from within our site try either disabling or bypassing your popup blocker. See our browser support section below for detailed instructions on each browser...

BROWSER SUPPORT

We have successfully tested our video player in all major web browsers, however some browsers might need some "tweaking" to be able to play our videos optimally. Our site does use ActiveX controls and Scripting like most other sites, so please make sure your browser is setup to allow both... See here for some common browsers "tweaks" or known issues...
  • Internet Explorer 7.0

The latest version of internet explorer does no longer allow a new window without an address bar. So IE7 users will see a gray location bar at the top of the video player popup window. There is no way around it. Also the increased popup blocker protection in IE7 blocks popup's even if the user request the popup video player by clicking on a button. Use one of the following 3 methods to bypass this:
    - Hold down the <Ctrl> key while clicking on the "Watch Video" button.
    - Click in the yellow IE7 information bar and select "Temporarily allow popup's" or
    - Click in the yellow IE7 information bar and select "Always allow popup's from this site"

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier

The previous versions of internet explorer did allow a totally clean video player popup window without address bar and also allowed popup's if the user clicked on a button. If you are using IE6 to browse our site you have no problems at all.

  • Firefox 2.0

See previous version, no known additional issues

  • Firefox 1.5

This current version of Firefox behaves almost identical to IE6 when it comes to watching videos on our site. Automated Popup's (no user click) are blocked but user requested (user click) popup's for our video player window work fine. Also the 3rd party ActiveX plugin is not required to view our videos.

  • Netscape 8 and 8.1

These netscape browser can toggle between using the Internet Explorer Rendering or Firefox Rendering. Our video player is fully functional in both modes provided you allow ActiveX for both modes.

Netscape Screenshot ActiveX

Also we found Netscape in either mode will not allow the custom sizing of our video player windows, it will just open a full screen browser window under a new tab rather then a new custom sized new window.

  • Opera 9.0

In the Opera browser our video player window works correctly with just the automated popup's (no user click) being blocked on the redirect page. Clicking the "Watch Video" button (user click) will bring up the video player window.

  • Safari (MAC)

To play Windows Media Video within your Safari Browser you will need to download the "Flip4Mac" plugin utility that will allow you to playback Windows Media Files inside the Quicktime plugin in Safari. A link has been provided at the top of this page under the Windows Media Player heading !

So those are all the issues that we are aware of at this time. If you are experiencing an issue not described here, or you have tested our video player in a browser not mentioned yet please contact the webmaster for help or comments.
